Ersatz Heirlooms was a show at Cystem Gallery in Tokyo. The following is the press release:
I recently bought a new iPod, a white Nano. When I opened the box, I held it in my hand in disbelief that this elegant, tiny thing could do what it promised. It was perfect. As I was admiring it, though, I noticed I was getting fingerprints on it. This seemed almost blasphemous. So I immediately wiped them off and polished the surfaces. About the fourth time I used it I pulled it out of my pocket and noticed the clear plastic front had been scratched by some loose change. It was no longer perfect and for the first time, I felt like it was mine. In the imperfection was the humanity.
